Youth survey - Education remains key

THE National Youth Council of Ireland yesterday launched a report on the attitudes of people in the 18 to 25 age group and concluded that the most pressing issues revolve around education and health.

How daunting it must be for anyone in that category to secure meaningful employment no matter what their educational qualifications might be. How challenging it must be for them to try to establish an independent existence and become economically viable. The scale of that challenge should not be underestimated and though earlier generations faced their own difficulties today’s challenges seem particularly daunting.

One of the solutions advanced was investment in flexible and affordable education and training, particularly for young people vulnerable to redundancy.
