Columnist is wrong about rebel without a cause

I DISAGREE with the remarks of your columnist Ryle Dwyer (April 25) about the “courage” of sacked junior minister John McGuinness.

Columnist is wrong about rebel without a cause

He has been a member of the majority government party for a considerable time.

The Kilkenny deputy supported all the Government’s policies and voted for them on a regular basis in the Dáil division lobbies.

There is nothing wrong with that.

The only problem is that now some of those policies have been called into question by the deterioration in the economy and the need to take very unpopular decisions. Instead of showing “courage” and taking responsibility for his part in mistakes that were made, he blames his colleagues and tries to sound as if he is a member of the opposition.

Mr McGuinness is arrogant, self-serving, politically hypocritical and does not deserve the indulgence being accorded to him by members of the media, including Ryle Dwyer.
