Two departments have eight junior ministers

YOUR report (April 23) on the assignments of new junior ministers made interesting reading.

Both the departments of Health and Children and Enterprise, Trade and Employment each now have four such ministers attached in spite of the huge numbers employed in the HSE.

The Department of Education and Science has five junior ministers attached in spite of the cutbacks on teacher numbers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Finance has one junior minister, Martin Mansergh, who must oversee the Board of Works while also looking after Arts — an interesting combination.

Perhaps the finance minister doesn’t want any one looking over his shoulder while he pursues his disastrous policies
