Effective organ donor system urgently needed

THERE are frequent appeals for people to become organ donors. Despite this, apparently there is a constant shortage of such volunteers.

Effective organ donor system urgently needed

I wanted to be a donor and obtained my organ donor’s card, but I lost it. I also lost the next two cards I obtained. I don’t have any card at the moment. It seems to me that the donor card system doesn’t work too well, which may be one of the causes of an apparent shortage of organ donors. I think there are probably thousands of people like me who wouldn’t mind donating body organs in the event of their death, but are stymied by the absence of a system that can efficiently notify the authorities who are involved in arranging transplants.

Has anyone thought of, say a tattoo for organ donors, sited in an area of the body unlikely to be damaged in a serious accident. Better still how about putting this and other information in the kind of chip that can be read with a simple scanning device. I’d willingly have a tattoo done or a chip inserted to identify me as an organ donor.
