‘Hidden’ waiting lists

THE health service waiting lists are actually much longer than they seem.

If everybody who need treatments — orthodontic, for example — were included, the lists would be colossal. We fob people off by creating an artificial cut-off point for eligibility.

Elderly patients are put on the long finger and some have to remain in their own homes where conditions are deplorable due to the termination of grants for repairs and heating.
