Unselfish politicians

THE odium which has been heaped onto some of our elected representatives — not all of which is justified — as a consequence of our descent into this biting recession must be tempered by our recognition of those who unselfishly volunteered to take a pay cut.

I refer in particular to independent MEP for Ireland South Kathy Sinnott and independent TD for Dublin Central Finian McGrath, both of whom have voluntarily accepted a 20% reduction in their salaries.

It would be niggardly and unfair of us not to acknowledge this unselfish act publicly.
