Cowen at the wheel
He may not be talking much to the country at the moment, but neither do parents when they are driving a car full of kids.
It’s annoying to hear “are we there yet?”... “need the loo”... “I feel sick” every five minutes from the back seat.
It merely slows the whole journey down and distracts the driver from the task on hand.
Even having teenagers in the car moaning and criticising can be wearying. Better to have adult company, someone to help read the map and offer stimulating and wise words if the journey is long. Someone who may share the driving and who has the same end destination in mind. I think it’s time we all grew up and offered Cowen some support because this country is taking a hazardous journey, unchartered territory as it was described last year, and we are all responsible for it’s safety.
Mr Cowen, a former finance minister, isn’t given to flowery speeches and rhetoric. He has his head down and that should be all we can ask for.
