THE social workers in the Roscommon incest case do not appear to have distinguished themselves. But this time there may be a convenient scapegoat.

According to a social work team leader, the mother became involved with a “Catholic right-wing organisation” which apparently enabled her to gain a High Court injunction.

The social worker said that after this there was a certain amount of caution about how to approach the family. He added that efforts would have been made to talk to the children and to the neighbours in order to build up the case for getting a care order.
