Adding to the dole queues, and the dole bill, is incomprehensible. What is not incomprehensible, however, is the depth of the crisis we face, so new ideas and fresh approaches are required. Here are two suggestions:

To address excessive expenditure on the public/civil service, impose a special public/civil service employment levy (1%?) and pay freeze on employees who earn more than €45,000 in this sector for two years with a guarantee that existing jobs are not cut and that wage increases will be introduced in the third year.
