Schoolchildren at risk on road with no paths

FOR years now Cork County Council has turned a blind eye to a very dangerous stretch of road in the east Cork town of Carrigtwohill.

The Carrigane road is a link road between Carrigtwohill and Midleton. There are four large residential estates at the Carrigtwohill end of the Carrigane road.

The really dangerous section is the first 500 yards from Carrigtwohill’s main street. That section has no footpaths, very poor lighting and a potholed and dangerous surface.

Residents of these estates, and in particular schoolchildren, have to walk this road during rush hour traffic morning and evening.

This situation has been ongoing for the past 10 years with promises from local politicians and Cork County Council that the road would be resurfaced and footpaths put in place — yet we seem nowhere nearer a safer road.

It is now time for local politicians to do their well-paid jobs or else resign.
