Government itself is an abuse of democracy
At the last general election, Bertie Ahern stood as the leader of Fianna Fáil and ended up being Taoiseach, yet now we have Brian Cowen in that position?
The electorate were given no say in this. At the last general election, the Green party declared it would not go into government with FF under any circumstances, yet they couldn’t get into FF’s bed fast enough afterwards.
Wasn’t this a blatant abuse of what the electorate voted for?
The Greens subsequently sent out Dan Boyle as a spokesman on practically every issue under the sun, yet the voters of Cork South Central had voted him out of the Dáil. Isn’t his role in Government politics contrary to what the voters decided?
Who at the last general election wanted to end up with an independent TD as Minister for Health?
All of this, coupled with a Government which refuses to accept the democratic decision of the people on the Lisbon Treaty, makes me conclude we do not live in a democratic country.
