CONTRARY to Maurice Fitzgerald’s cheerleading of the virtues of our partitioned island and its two competing economies (Letters, December 2), I suggest he and those really concerned with the negative fallout from cross-border shopping consider the option of striving towards one all-island economy.

The reality of course is that it’s Irish jobs on both sides of the border that suffer from partition.

The only long-term answer for all our people is the creation of one all-Ireland economy.
