OWING to the endemic nature of TB in cattle, farmers are required in the public interest to endure annual herd tests together with random spot checks. Animals are immediately culled on the basis of suspicion alone, irrespective of past merit or service.

The endemic nature of corruption, extravagance and financial abuse among politicians and public officials surely justifies the public demanding a similar approach to rooting out all malefactors.

I see no reason why such people should not be subject to annual testing and random checks, with suspects immediately culled from public life without further ado.
