UCC’s stem cells decision beggars belief
The use of adult stem cells in research has already resulted in successful cures or improvements in various conditions and, most importantly, it does not rely on utilising and further dehumanising the unborn child.
I am unaware of any cures that have been achieved from research using embryonic stem cells. In fact, there is a growing worldwide trend against the use of such stem cells due to the moral and ethical problems raised in both
public and medical spheres.
UCC is funded by State money and why the Government and the college board would choose to act in such a high-handed manner beggars belief, especially taking into account our constitutional position and the deeply-held convictions of the majority of the people on this island.
In addition, considering our present economic climate, it seems incredible to spend taxpayers’ money on such unethical, costly and outdated research.
