UCC’s stem cells decision beggars belief

I STRONGLY oppose the recent decision of the UCC board of governors to allow research on stem cell lines obtained from aborted embryos.

The use of adult stem cells in research has already resulted in successful cures or improvements in various conditions and, most importantly, it does not rely on utilising and further dehumanising the unborn child.

I am unaware of any cures that have been achieved from research using embryonic stem cells. In fact, there is a growing worldwide trend against the use of such stem cells due to the moral and ethical problems raised in both
