Lisbon no voters not part of a Ganley cult

WHAT Barry Walsh (Letters, September 26) is suggesting is that Declan Ganley and the US government were responsible for the Lisbon Treaty no vote.

Lisbon no voters not part of a Ganley cult

Did not the US chamber of commerce come out in favour of the treaty? Did not the three main political parties, and probably the Irish taxpayer, not fund the yes campaign to the tune of millions of euro? Were we given a euro-by-euro roll-out on who paid for what by the various parties? Did TDs put in for expenses while campaigning rather than put their hands in their own pockets?

To attribute the result to Mr Ganley is to treat no voters as somehow part of a Libertas/Ganley cult. I find this an insult to people like Eamon Devoy of the TEEU and Jack O’Connor of Siptu, along with many others who had reservations about the Lisbon Treaty.

I suppose just because a number of gombeens get elected to the Dáil, Mr Walsh must think voters are like sheep, easily steered in any direction. But we sheep are wide awake and our teeth are razor sharp against the arrogance of this Government.
