Public sector is a much tighter ship

WORKING in the semi-state sector, I welcome your columnist Terry Prone’s declaration (September 8) that the public service didn’t cause the recession.

Public sector is a much tighter ship

As she states, approximately 83 cent out of every euro found its way into the construction sector.

Every euro I earn is visible and assessed for tax with negligible opportunities to avoid it.

Over the past number of years I witnessed people in the private sector earn vast sums of money, take multiple vacations and avoid paying tax, helped by attractive schemes drawn up by their influential political allies.

All is not perfect in the public services, but it is a much tighter ship.

It is pure greed that has us in the economic mess we are experiencing at present.
