Cowen, Lenihan get it spectacularly wrong

YOU report (September 4) that Finance Minister Brian Lenihan “predicted a year-end deficit of €3 billion in July, but has now revised that to €5bn. However, some experts said €6bn was more likely as Mr Cowen refused to accept any blame for getting Government figures so wrong in the past”.

How can a year-end deficit projection practically double in little over a month? The Taoiseach and the Minister for Finance, between them, have gotten essential figures spectacularly wrong and this shows they are “neither qualified nor able” to preside over the State’s finances.
