Settling old scores

OVER a period of 250 years, Lismore in Co Waterford was attacked 11 times and burned seven times.

Settling old scores

These dastardly acts were carried out mostly by Danes on tour (aka the Vikings).

However, in 879 the unkindest cut of all was made by a tribe from Ossory who ravaged the town.

Now it’s bad enough when foreigners do it, but when your next-door neighbours do it, it’s outrageous.

However, we have long memories in Lismore and we will get our own back tomorrow when Big Dan Shanahan and Dave Bennett represent Lismore in Croke Park and we will give the Ossory men a taste of their own medicine.

So lets hear it next Sunday — Remember 879! — and the Ossory men will regret their raiding.
