J1 programme an invaluable experience
I read the feature article by Shane Hennessy on your business pages (July 28) and compared his experience with mine.
I went to Cape Cod in the early days of the programme. I attribute so much to the success of my summer at Wychmere Harbour Club, Harwichport, where I was a waitress from May until September and travelled for 30 days after. I was educated in the ‘school of life’ and mastered a whole range of skills while working.
Seeing the work ethic in America was a foundation in creating opportunities for me later on.
Low rates for hard work should not be spurned or used as a reason not to participate in the scheme.
