Heart healthcare well below EU average

HEART healthcare in Ireland was rated as mediocre and well below the EU average in the first Euro Consumer Health Index.

The country was one of the worst in terms of preventing heart disease, with not enough efforts to promote a healthy diet, exercise and reduce obesity.

Heart disease and related ailments are the biggest cause of death in most European countries and claimed 5,000 lives in Ireland last year.
