Health monitor call for ‘red zone’ residents

FOLLOWING the disclosure that hazardous waste at Haulbowline in Cork harbour has not been disposed of in accordance with accepted safety procedures, the Irish Doctors’ Environmental Association again calls for baseline biomonitoring of populations living in sites adjacent to landfill and industrial facilities.

We have often been told “there is no evidence” that certain environmental facilities can cause harm. We need to be a little surer and request that the motion on this issue passed by the Irish Medical Organisation earlier this year be implemented without delay.
