Sanctions lifted - Well done

US PRESIDENT George W Bush yesterday said he will lift sanctions against North Korea, a remarkable turnaround towards the regime he once branded as part of an “axis of evil”.

North Korea has been a cause of great concern for decades because of its authoritarian regime, a very poor record on human rights and frequent famines because of the country’s bizarre economic policies. All of this has been underlined by the country’s nuclear capabilities. Anything that will ease that tension and improve the lot of the people of North Korea is welcome.An unexpected achievement in dying days of the Bush presidency.
