We should vote no to the return of Europe’s old colonial masters

IN ALL the hundreds of articles devoted to the subject of Europe in recent weeks and months, I’m not aware of anyone seriously canvassing the only sane course — complete withdrawal.

Even so-called Eurosceptics from the far right and far left shy away from pulling out, fearful of the economic and political consequences. Perhaps it’s just too much of a nuclear option, and Ireland doesn’t do nuclear, right?

“Europe has been good to us and always will be,” every party seems to be saying. Well that’s half right, I guess.
