Our dangerous roads - Recognise the danger

RESEARCH has established that 95% of deaths or serious injuries in road crashes occur on single carriageway roads.

The European Road Assessment Programme study shows that while progress is being made, too much of our roads network remains hazardous.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey accepts there is still a lot to be done and says he will be making funding of €500m a year available for road improvements.

So, we know we have a problem and we know we have a solution, though it may take a bit of time to deliver. There is, of course, another option.

We could slow down, stop overtaking on the inside and, while driving on single carriageway roads, drive with care and respect for our fellow road users.
