Model for peace

IRELAND is to share its experience of the peace process with other countries in conflict.

New peace envoys will deliver diplomatic support.

Such an enlightened external initiative follows in the internationalist tradition of former foreign ministers Seán MacBride and Frank Aiken.

What facilitates the Irish effort to undertake a neutral role in conflict resolution overseas is the non-aligned and non-belligerent status of the State.

Ireland has no enemies.

However, it has had its own colonial experience stretching back over many centuries.
