Arms and the man

FORMER President Patrick Hillery’s funeral was dignified and fitting.

However, I thought it was a pity that a volley of shots was discharged at the close of ceremonies, especially for a man of his calibre who did so much to uphold the constitution, back his leader and counter the threat of gunmen at the start of Troubles in the 1970s. How about it for the next State funeral ?
