Bother over Beijing

FOREIGN Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern has said the Government does not support the principle of boycotting the Beijing Olympics over the ongoing crisis in Tibet.

He has also said that Ireland would have to deal with the Chinese long after the Olympics are over.

Never before have I heard Irish foreign policy indicated so clearly at such a high level.

As an Irish citizen, I am calling for an outright ban of Irish involvement in all official ceremonies up to and during the Games.

Let the athletes have their day.
