Deportation nightmare for two little girls

YOUR columnist Fergus Finlay (March 25) writes about the “two frightened little girls”, Naomi and Jemima Izevbekhai, who are scheduled to be deported by the State and therefore live with the threat of genital mutilation.

I have met women who had their genitals mutilated, with the scars still evident on their whole persona.

Until now I did not have to put faces to frightened children living in Ireland who might be subjected to this horror.

Depriving women of a fundamental part of human sexuality is inhumane. Sending these children away from their homes into the unknown is unjust.

Justice Minister Brian Lenihan was previously Minister of State for Children and showed compassion for children’s rights.

I hope he will reconsider this deportation in the light of what could happen to these two children.
