Five years in Iraq - End war now

AS EVER the first casualty in war is truth and Iraq has been no different.

Nearly 100,000 Iraqis have died in the five years since the war began, many more have seen their homes destroyed and their lives changed.

A little less than 4,000 US troops and 175 British troops have given their lives in a war that was meant to “bring freedom and democracy” to Iraq.

The unfortunate people of Iraq can take some small crumb of comfort from the fact that before the sixth anniversary of the beginning of the war comes there will be a new regime in the White House. Hopefully one that will be more effective at rebuilding a shattered country and a shattered society.
