Speed limit challenge to county councillors
In July last year I was amazed to discover that the speed limit had been reduced from 100km/h to 80m/h on what has to be one of the best roads in Co Cork.
At that time I thought the limit had been imposed by the Department of Transport because of the proximity of the new toll road.
But it would appear from your report that the department was not responsible for this decision and supported retention of the 100km/h limit.
Responsibility for the reduction actually lay with the local authority — despite the ‘outcry’ of local councillors.
One can only hope Cork county councillors will now impose its authority in the next few weeks and bring the limit into line with the transport department’s original recommendation of 100km/h.
