PRESIDENT Mary McAleese recently launched the regeneration project for the more deprived areas of Limerick — Moyross, Southill and Ballinacurra Weston.

The project is estimated to cost e700 million. Moyross will get a new town centre. It is hoped private investment will sustain growth in the area once the project is completed and even while it is under way.

It’s a shame that it has taken an enormous injection of Government funding to regenerate an area. Not that you could call it regeneration — it appears to be demolition and rebuilding from scratch.
