Kenny’s comments fit dictionary definition

I WAS puzzled to read in the Irish Examiner of January 17 advice from a Fine Gael spokesperson suggesting that I consult a dictionary in relation to my comments that Enda Kenny’s ill-timed criticisms of the Taoiseach were akin to an “act of treason”.

Kenny’s comments fit dictionary definition

The Fine Gael spokesperson was quoted as saying that my statement was “factually incorrect if you look up the meaning of treason in a dictionary”.

I have since consulted two dictionaries. The Collins Compact defines treason as “betrayal of one’s country”.

The Oxford Paperback dictionary defines treason as “treachery towards one’s country or its ruler”.

I would suggest that each of these definitions adequately describes Enda Kenny’s unpatriotic action in criticising the Taoiseach at a time when the Fine Gael leader knew full well that Mr Ahern was engaged in official business representing our country in South Africa.

Maybe the anonymous Fine Gael spokesperson quoted in your report might now shed light on their definition of treason?
