Opposition misleads public on Bertie’s taxes

THE opposition parties are intent on misleading the public when they state that the Taoiseach is not tax compliant.

The truth is that after making a voluntary disclosure, the Taoiseach has received an application statement from the Revenue who are treating him just like they would any other tax payer.

The Standards in Public Office (SIPO) legislation states that either a tax clearance certificate or an application statement issued by the Revenue Commissioners have equal stature. Thus, Fine Gael’s claims to the contrary are completely unsubstantiated.
