IF the EU fines the Government for failing properly to consider the impact of the current planned M3 route, Irish taxpayers will have to foot the bill.

Alternatives, including expanded rail service, would cost hundreds of millions less.

Of course, the benefit of saving one of the world’s greatest archaeological treasures would be priceless.

No better reason to demand a review of less costly options such as the Meath master plan.
