Social housing - Applicants must act in good faith

BEING dependent on your local authority for housing does not mean you should have to accept whatever accommodation you are offered.

However, it is difficult to understand why of 111 offers of housing in a new, top-class urban estate only 78 were accepted.

One of the people who turned down a €400,000 four-bedroom terraced house did so because “it was too far from a bus route”. A bus stops a few hundred yards from the Cork city development and there are plans for a bus to pass the estate entrance.
