Site fit for a hospital

I NOTED with interest the recent announcement that the Mercy and South Infirmary hospitals in Cork are to amalgamate into one new hospital, the location of which is still to be decided.

I hope the city docklands are is considered as the site for the new hospital. This location would have the following advantages:

1. Ample space for the hospital and parking.

2. Retention of acute hospital and emergency facilities in the centre of the city.

3. Easy access for patients near and far via the link road and the two new bridges planned to link the docklands with the north side of the city.

4. Short commute times compared to a greenfield site.

5. A scenic waterfront location for patients and staff.
