Shannon falls victim to politics of greed

YEARS ago I viewed with sadness video footage of the steam train that serviced Donegal before it was closed down like other rail lines in the interest of short-sighted economic gain.

Years later, RTÉ hived off television outside broadcasts, the job I worked in for 20 years, to private operators. On the Shannon issue, Willie O’Dea and his party colleagues may huff and puff all they like, but they should realise the house has already been demolished and replaced by a mansion with a sign on its cast-iron gates saying ‘Locals Keep Out’. This Government laid the foundation stone for that particular monument to greed.

I wonder if a phone call came from the White House to the Taoiseach indicating that the situation was causing problems for the US military, would the decision be reversed?
