However, the reality is that heritage is of no value to the powers-that-be in modern Ireland.

The apathy towards our heritage is evident in the fact that for several months recently there was no heritage officer working for Cork County Council — the second biggest council in the country. Glitzy heritage events are just another example of political spin, while the reality is that the administration of the country resembles the Third World.
