Get party fundraisers away from the church gate

IN VIEW of the recent disclosure by the Standards in Public office commission that a massive €12.7 million of taxpayers’ money was used to fund the political parties last year alone, I am calling for an end to the practice of annual church gate collections by all political parties.

I believe church gate collections should be reserved for charitable groups — community and sporting clubs and all other genuine non-political and voluntary organisations.

Massgoers readily support the running of their parish, church renovations and maintenance, etc.
