YES, Matt Cooper (July 20) is spot-on. Dublin, of course, gets everything. It gets Government offices that contribute no commercial rates at a cost of more than €27 million to Dublin City Council last year alone.

It gets a benchmarking directive costing the council more than €76m. It gets a shortfall in promised subsidy for domestic rates of over €110m, again for last year alone.

In fact, Dublin city is so fortunate that last year it contributed more to Government coffers, through motor tax income, PAYE and PRSI than the city council received from the local government fund.
