MY sister departed Cork Airport recently to stay with a Spanish family for five weeks.

As a token of her gratitude to her hosts she took with her a cutglass vase as a present. Due to the fragile nature of the piece she wanted to carry it with her on the flight.

However, when she went to check in she was told it was not possible to take the piece with her as hand luggage because it was glass and had to be put in one of her suitcases.
