Third-term arrogance

SO the Taoiseach thinks those who exercise their critical faculties should “commit suicide”.

He obviously thinks that, rather than exercise our right as citizens of this democratic republic to participate in public debate, all of us should take a vow of silence.

This latest outburst betrays all the symptoms of the intolerance shown by those who have been in power too long. Those voters who bought the line during the election campaign that there was no alternative were sold a pup. In contrast, those of us who thought that re-election of the Government for a third time would set a dangerous tendency towards a one-party state were right.
