THE recent homophobic remarks by Ian Paisley Jnr have been rightly condemned by the SDLP.

These comments, made by a junior minister in the office of the North’s First and deputy First Minister, runs contrary to their strategic action plan which states they will “identify and tackle issues and inequalities based on sexual orientation”.

It should be noted that Ian Paisley Jnr and the DUP were reverting to type. In 1982, a National Union of Students Gay Rights conference was held in Queens University Students’ Union.
