Downsize the Dáil

A BIG issue that no election candidate will want to address is overcrowding in Dáil Eireann.

There are 166 seats up for grabs, forming one of the biggest parliaments in Europe for such a small country. We have a ratio of one TD for approximately every 20,000 people compared to the British parliament which has one MP for every 80,000 citizens.

The question voters should ask candidates is — “Are you really necessary?”

We could function just as effectively with 40 fewer TDs — not to mention the massive savings to taxpayers.
