Trainee sailors salute captain and crew

We trainees on board the sail training ship Asgard 2 recently voyaged from Kinsale to Bere Island.

We wish to thank Captain MacSweeney and the crew who taught us navigation skills, chart-reading, how to sail a traditional rigged vessel and gave us an understanding of weather forecasts.

This voyage gave us the opportunity to experience turbulent seas off Mizen Head, Sheeps Head and the Fasnet Rock. Another highlight was climbing the mast or jumping into the seas off Broad Strand or seeing the sun rise over Coolmaine Strand while on the early morning watch.

The trip was truly an experience in inter-generational living and learning under the skilled stewardship of the Asgard captain and crew.
