Road-show stopper

WITH the recent archaeological find at Lismullen, I am reminded of comments made in 2004 by Michael Egan, corporate affairs director of the National Roads Authority, when he predicted it was “not unlikely” a “show-stopper” would be discovered at Tara along the planned route of the M3.

With the ancient ceremonial henge, a show-stopper has indeed been discovered.

Two recent polls indicate that a clear majority of people are in favour of a motorway reroute and of work being halted on the motorway to excavate the site.

Hopefully, the strength of public opinion will finally put a stop to the ill-conceived and costly NRA “road show” at Tara.
