THE Taoiseach seemed to use his St Patrick’s Day junket to Washington to champion the case of illegal immigrants in the US.

However, there is a far greater injustice being done to hundreds of thousands of Irish people who emigrated to the US, Australia, New Zealand, Britain and elsewhere.

They have no voting rights in Ireland unlike, say, British, American or French people living here who can vote in elections in their own countries. Any suggestion that they should be denied this right would cause outrage in their homelands.
