Days of real fascism in the North have gone

IN response to the letter from Dr Hazlett Lynch of the West Tyrone Voice (Irish Examiner, January 15), I’m surprised at his selective use of the word ‘fascist’ in the context of Northern Ireland.

Days of real fascism in the North have gone

The fascists, according to him, are PIRA/SF. Even unionist politicians are referring to this legitimate political party as Sinn Féin. Why not the UDA/UVF/LUF/RHD/Orange Order/ unionists?

The doctor’s group is autonomous and sectarian, as is obvious from its website, with no electoral mandate, and would be happy with nothing but a return to pre-civil rights marches Ulster. Then, there was real fascism and a denial of democracy. Those days, thankfully, will never return.
