Consumer agencies lack any real power

AS 2007 begins, it has emerged that consumers are facing another round of stealth taxes and increases in charges for public transport, electricity and mortgage repayments.

Former BUPA customers also face higher charges if they are forced to return to VHI due to a lack of competition in the market.

Inflation is set to exceed 5% for the first time since 2001, which will erode concessions received by workers in the national wage agreement.
