YOUR editorial (Irish Examiner, December 16) claims we need competition in the health insurance field.

No, we don’t. Our health is not a commodity to be bought and sold. Whether you are a tramp or a bishop, you should be able to go to hospital if you fall ill.

Risk equalisation exists in many countries besides Ireland, and for a very good reason.
